A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.

June 10th: The warmer temperatures have dried out most of the trails at lower elevation, but there is rain possible in the next few days, so check the forecast before heading out. There could also be some lingering snow in shaded areas and at higher elevation.

Recent fireguard work has changed the wind profile on affected trails, and may result in an increased likelihood of tree fall and downed trees. Downed trees can happen at any time and any place, particularly in windy areas such as the Bow Valley. Be prepared to turn around, route find or climb over/under fallen trees. Report tree debris and fallen trees to Parks staff.

Always come prepared for a variety of conditions, that can change suddenly throughout the day.

Be aware of closures and avalanche risks in the area and check advisories before you go.

    Closures:

    • Pigeon Mountain: Closed Dec 1 - Jun 15 for protection of critical winter range for elk and bighorn sheep.
    • West Wind Valley: Closed Dec 1 - Jun 15 for protection of critical winter range for elk and bighorn sheep.

    Notes:

    • Be aware of avalanche conditions. Current conditions can be found at Avalanche Canada.
    • Be bear aware and practice wildlife safety. Travel in groups, make noise on the trail, and keep pets on leash. Carrying bear spray and knowing how to use it is highly recommended, even in winter.
    • It's tick season! Make sure to check you and your pets when you get home. For best protection, use a bug repellent with DEET.
    • Caution is advised for natural hazards such as downed trees, washouts and missing bridges. Route-finding may be necessary.
    • Be sure not to overestimate your ability when planning your trip: Humility can be a life saver. Plan for rapidly changing conditions and bring extra socks.
